Charter experiences
The wind usually drops in the late afternoon off Phuket, which makes the hour before sunset the calmest, prettiest time to be on the water. A private sunset cruise puts you on deck with a cold drink as the sun goes down over the Andaman, with no crowds and no fixed timetable, just your group and the crew. We match the boat and the route to your evening, whether that is a quiet drink for two or a birthday with friends.
By four or five in the afternoon the sea state usually settles and the harsh midday glare softens. Limestone islands turn gold, the water goes flat and warm-coloured, and the whole coast quietens down. On a private charter you are not sharing the rail with a hundred strangers, so you can pick a sheltered bay, drop anchor and simply watch the light change. Depending on the season the sun sets roughly between six and half past six, and the sky often keeps colour for a while after. Many guests swim off the back of the boat first, then dry off with a drink as the sun drops.
Every private sunset charter runs with crew, so you are looked after from the moment you step aboard. A typical evening includes a bar with beer, wine, soft drinks and mixers, plus a spread of canapes or light Thai and Western bites prepared on board. Tell us in advance if you want a specific wine, a cake brought out at the right moment, or a full dinner rather than snacks, and we arrange it. Dietary needs, halal catering and a dry boat for family groups are all straightforward. The galley and service level vary by yacht, so we match the catering to the boat you choose.
A sunset slot works for almost any occasion. Couples book it for anniversaries, proposals and honeymoons, often on a smaller yacht where it is just the two of you and the crew keep a low profile. Small groups of friends and families take the larger catamarans, which have shade, sofas and room to move around. We also run plenty of birthdays, hen and stag evenings, corporate sundowners and marriage proposals, where the crew help with timing, decorations and the moment itself. Because the boat is private, the pace is yours: linger at anchor, or cruise slowly along the coast.
Most private sunset trips run around three to four hours, which is enough to reach a quiet anchorage, swim, eat and watch the sun go down without rushing back in the dark. Departure is usually timed so you are settled at anchor with a drink before the light turns, roughly two to three hours before sunset. Shorter two-hour harbour cruises suit guests who just want drinks and the view close to shore. Longer evenings with a full sit-down dinner and a later return are also possible on the bigger yachts. We build the timing around the sunset time for your date.
Boats leave from marinas and beaches around the island, and the right one depends on your boat and where you are staying. The main deep-water departure points are Chalong, Ao Po and the Boat Lagoon and Royal Phuket Marina area on the east coast, which give quick access to the calm water and islands of Phang Nga Bay. West-coast beaches such as Patong, Kata and Kamala suit speedboat sunset runs towards Coral Island and Racha. For sailing yachts and catamarans the eastern marinas are usual. Tell us your hotel and we will suggest the closest sensible pick-up.
The boat sets the mood more than the route does. A sailing yacht or a compact motor yacht feels intimate and romantic, good for two to six people. A power catamaran gives you deck space, stable footing and shade for a larger group or a party. Speedboats are the quickest way out to a west-coast island for a short, lively sunset run. Motor yachts sit somewhere in between, with comfort and pace. We run crewed motor yachts, catamarans, sailing yachts and speedboats, so once we know your group size, budget and mood we can point you to a shortlist.
Best for couples wanting a quiet romantic evening, small groups of friends or family, and anyone marking a birthday, anniversary, proposal or special occasion on the water.

That gives you time to reach a calm anchorage, swim and settle in with a drink before the light turns. We confirm the exact pick-up time once we know your date and departure point.
