Best sailing routes from Phuket

Phang Nga Bay, with James Bond Island and the sea caves, is calmer water and better suited to gentle sailing than open crossings. When to sail: seasons and wind
The reliable sailing season on the Andaman coast runs roughly from November to April, when the northeast monsoon brings settled weather and steady, manageable wind. This is the window for overnight and multi-day voyages. From May to October the southwest monsoon brings more wind and swell on the exposed western routes, though sheltered spots like Phang Nga Bay and the eastern Krabi islands still sail well on many days. We watch the forecast closely and will tell you honestly if conditions favour a different route or boat. Morning departures tend to give the cleanest wind and the calmest anchorages.

Do I need sailing experience to charter a sailing yacht in Phuket?
No. Every boat comes fully crewed with a licensed skipper who handles the sailing, navigation and anchoring. You are welcome to take the helm or trim a sail if you would like to learn, and the crew are glad to teach. Equally, you can do nothing but swim and relax. Experience changes how involved you get, not whether you can come.
How much does a sailing yacht charter in Phuket cost?
Cost depends on the boat, the season and the length of trip, so we quote each charter individually. As a broad, indicative guide only, a private crewed sailing yacht or catamaran for a full day tends to start in the mid to high hundreds of US dollars for the whole boat and climbs with size and specification. Can we sail overnight or for several days?
Yes, and it is where sailing really comes into its own. Overnight charters swap the marina return for a quiet mooring, dinner aboard and a night at anchor. Multi-day voyages let you reach further, linking Phi Phi, Krabi and the outer islands with time to stop properly. The settled November to April season is best for this. Gulets and larger catamarans have the cabins to make several nights comfortable.
What is included on a sailing charter?
Private charters come fully crewed with skipper and hostess or deckhand, fuel within the planned route, snorkelling equipment, drinking water, soft drinks and a Thai lunch or meals cooked aboard. National park fees are sometimes extra depending on the route, and we flag those before you book. Longer voyages include provisioning and cabin linen.
